Obituary: Derek Pearson

The Academy was sad to learn last week of the death of Derek Pearson. Derek died peacefully at his home in Criccieth on 7th December.

Derek was a well respected medical physicist. Having been Clinical Director of Medical Physics at Nottingham City Hospital since 1989, he became Head of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust from 2006 to 2012. He was involved in professional issues, education and training at IPEM and more recently was a professional adviser to the Chief Scientific Officer, working on the Modernising Scientific Careers programme, regulation and accreditation.

Up until July 2016, Derek was a professional adviser to the Academy. As well as being very knowledgeable about healthcare, science and education, Derek was a kind and considerate colleague who was always generous with his time and advice. He will be much missed by family, friends and colleagues.
