The National Register can be used by:
- All public and private healthcare providers who want to check the credentials of people visiting their facility.
- People who need to visit healthcare facilities as part of their work
Registration is a public demonstration by you that you are committed to ensuring public and patient safety and that you meet certain requirements to protect yourself, the public, NHS staff and patients. Registration may be a requirement for entry to some healthcare facilities – you should check the specific requirements of the healthcare facility you intend visiting.
Registration is reconfirmed annually.
You demonstrate that you meet the National Register requirements through:
- Your training
- Having the recommended Immunisations (relevant to the areas you will visit)
- Having a Criminal background checks (DBS or equivalent)
You can apply to join one of the three risk-based tier levels, dependant on the level of contact you will have with patients and the public:
- Tier 1 is the lowest risk, with only minimal or incidental patient contact expected.
- Tier 2 is a medium risk, where you may be visiting areas where non-invasive procedures are taking place.
- Tier 3 is highest risk, where you may be visiting areas where invasive procedures are taking place.
Registration is reconfirmed annually.
