Inspire the next generation of healthcare scientists with the NHS Careers Schools competition

Help to inspire the next generation of Healthcare Scientists by encouraging schools and pupils to take part in the 6th annual NHS Careers competition running until the end of January 2014

The competition aims to raise awareness amongst year 8 and 9 students (ages 12-14) of the different careers available within healthcare and help them develop crucial job seeking skills. It is now in its sixth year and last year more than 1,660 students from up and down the country got involved.  The overall winner receives a netbook computer with £50 Amazon vouchers for the regional winners.

To enter the competition, the students are asked to selecting one of the 350 or so healthcare careers available in the NHS – including Healthcare Science roles – and then to create a job description and an eye-catching job advert for that role that will appeal to their peer group.

Help to promote the competition – and the opportunities in Healthcare Science.

The competition is also a fantastic opportunity for NHS professionals to engage directly with young people just when they are starting to consider their future career options and GCSE and A level subjects. In particular, NHS Careers are keen to get across the message that working in the NHS – whatever job you do – is an opportunity to make a difference to people’s lives and to do something different every day.

If you have children in year 8 or 9, or know anyone who does, please make sure they know the competition’s underway and encourage them to talk to their teachers about their school getting involved.

If you have friends and family who are teachers, please direct them to the NHS Careers website where they can download the competition materials and find details about how to enter.

NHS Careers are also asking people to tweet about the competition using the hash tag #NHSCareerscomp or promote it on their personal or corporate Facebook pages.
