Meeting with Cabinet Secretary – Update
At the AHCS Congress 2015 in Edinburgh the Academy President was invited to go back to Scotland and to meet the minister, to bring to their attention any specific points.
At the meeting the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Sport Shona Robison MSP made the offer to help to raise the profile of the HCS workforce and also encouraged the Academy to respond to the National Workforce discussion paper – http://www.gov.scot/Publications/2017/02/6174
Scottish colleagues, Jacqui Lunday Johnstone and Karen Stewart, also discussed known knowledge around ‘transforming roles’ within the HCS workforce, in particular scientists taking on additional roles and responsibilities. The Professional Council at their forthcoming meeting will discuss how they could source examples.
The other area of interest from a Scottish perspective is the AHCS equivalence process, in particular at the HSST level. The AHCS President, Professor Brendan Cooper said that he had enjoyed meeting the Cabinet Secretary, Shona Robison MSP and had found her very receptive towards developing the Healthcare science workforce.
