Government Updates NHS IP Guidance to Accelerate Innovation
Government Updates NHS IP Guidance to Accelerate Innovation
Patients are set to gain faster access to groundbreaking treatments as the government updates NHS Intellectual Property (IP) guidance for the first time in 23 years. The revised framework simplifies IP rules, clarifies roles, and promotes best practice across the NHS, cutting red tape and streamlining processes that previously slowed innovation.
The old guidance, dating back to 2002, was not designed for modern technologies like AI, often causing delays and missed opportunities. The new approach aims to unlock billions in economic growth and position the NHS as a global leader in health innovation. Developed with the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), the update supports the government’s 10-Year Health Plan and encourages local entrepreneurship and grassroots innovation.
