AHCS President Shares a Seasonal Message
A message from AHCS President, Professor Chris Hopkins
As we approach the end of another year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible progress we’ve made together and share some exciting developments shaping the future of healthcare science.
This year has been pivotal for the Professional Bodies Council (PBC). We’ve worked collaboratively to develop a two-year strategy that sets a clear direction for strengthening the voice and impact of healthcare science across the UK. I’m delighted to report that we are already seeing tangible progress across most areas of the strategy, which will enhance healthcare science and improve patient care.
The PBC has grown stronger, welcoming several new members who bring fresh perspectives and expertise to our work. Their contributions will be invaluable as we continue to champion healthcare science and excellence.
We’ve also deepened our partnership with the National School of Healthcare Science (NSHCS), focusing on HSST and STP level initiatives to create more flexible routes for scientific provision. This includes exploring new training opportunities to ensure our workforce is equipped for the evolving demands of healthcare across the UK.
These achievements build on the outstanding work of our healthcare science community, work that continues to transform patient outcomes and advance clinical practice. I am immensely proud of what we’ve accomplished together and excited about the opportunities ahead.
As we celebrate the festive season, let’s also remember those who may be facing challenges and hardships, whether through illness, isolation, or personal loss. Healthcare science is built upon compassion and care, and these values extend beyond our professional lives into our communities and everyday lives.
This is a time when even the smallest gestures can mean so much, whether it’s reaching out to a colleague, supporting a local initiative, or simply offering a kind word. The heart of healthcare science is about improving lives, and that spirit doesn’t stop for the holidays; it shines through in how we care for each other and our communities.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to all colleagues working or on-call over the holiday period. Your commitment ensures that patients continue to receive the care they need, even when most of the country is taking a well-earned break.
On behalf of the Academy team, I wish you Season’s Greetings, a joyful holiday, and a successful New Year filled with innovation, collaboration, and just the right amount of festive sparkle.
Warm Regards,
Professor Chris Hopkins
AHCS President
