Life Sciences Sector Plan Published
On 16 July 2025, the UK Government released its Life Sciences Sector Plan, a ten-year strategic initiative designed to revolutionise the nation’s life sciences landscape. The plan aims to establish the UK as Europe’s leading life sciences economy by 2030 and the third globally, behind only the US and China, by 2035.
The strategy is built around three strategic pillars:

Enabling world-class research and development, leveraging scientific excellence and strengthening health data infrastructure.

Creating an attractive ecosystem for business growth, through investment, manufacturing support, and capital access.

Driving NHS innovation and reform, accelerating patient access to innovations and embedding them in healthcare delivery
Key actions include:

A £600 million Health Data Research Service to establish a secure, AI-ready health data platform.

Commitment to cut clinical trial setup times to under 150 days.

Investment of £520 million via the Life Sciences Innovative Manufacturing Fund to bolster UK-based manufacturing.

Streamlined regulatory and procurement pathways, including an “Innovator Passport” and parallel approvals by MHRA and NICE
