PSA approval for Clinical Research Practitioners to join the Academy Register

On 22 April 2020, the Academy for Healthcare Science received final approval from the Professional Standards Authority for the Notification of Change to add Clinical Research Practitioners as a part of the Academy’s register.

The Authority decided that the changes would not negatively impact on the Academy’s compliance with the Accreditation Standards so approved the change.

The change was approved by a Moderator following a review of evidence gathered by the Accreditation team and supplied by the Academy. No conditions or recommendations were issued and the decision is now published on the Professional Standards Authority website (link below).  The document describing the detail of the assessment is accessible at the bottom of the page.

Welcoming accredited registration for CRPs, Dr William van’t Hoff, CEO NIHR CRN said:

“I am delighted that the Professional Standards Authority has now approved registration for Clinical Research Practitioners within the Academy for Healthcare Science Accredited Registers Programme.

There has never been a more important time for CRPs to bring their skills and knowledge forward, as they are doing now in their vital contribution to delivering nationally prioritised Urgent Public Health COVID-19 research.“

Janet Monkman, CEO and Registrar of AHCS:

“I am delighted to welcome Clinical Research Practitioners (CRPs) to the Academy for Healthcare Science Accredited Registers Programme and join in their celebration of this as a milestone in the development of their profession.  While CRPs and colleagues are currently active in delivering the NIHR portfolio of nationally prioritised Urgent Public Health Covid-19 research in the NHS, piloting of registration processes for CRPs will be on hold.  In the meantime, I would encourage all CRPs to join the CRP Directory in readiness to come forward when the register can open for applications.

I am also pleased to welcome Dr Fiona O’Neill who until recently was working at NIHR but has now joined the Academy specifically to work on the area of CRPs and the CRP register, as well as leading work looking into research in the workforce.”
