British In Vitro Diagnostics Association (BIVDA) – Annual General Meeting, 18th April 2018

At BIVDA’s 2018 AGM David Bennett, Academy for Healthcare Science Director of Quality, provided an update on the new Accredited Credentialing Professional Register for the Life Sciences Industry (LSI).

BIVDA is the national trade association for the in vitro diagnostics industry, currently representing approximately 100 members ranging from British start-up companies to UK subsidiaries of multinational corporation. BIVDA member companies employ more than 8,000 people in the UK, with a total industry turnover of approximately £900 million. BIVDA activities within the NHS include the supply and maintenance of pathology equipment and reagents, training, clinical evaluation work, and engagement with both procurement and clinical personnel.

BIVDA is just one of a number of LSI Trade Associations that have come together to collaborate on the new Register, which consists of a new national database for Life Sciences staff who interact directly with the NHS front-line staff and/or patients, including provider organisations and CCGs.

The LSI Register was recently accredited by the Professional Standards Authority in order to promote patient safety and provide assurance for NHS organisations. Linked to the new Register, ID cards will be created that are easy to use and compatible with all parts of the regulatory framework.
