Statement: AHCS Celebrate Women In Science Day – Lynne Smith

The AHCS is celebrating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which took place on the 11th of February, 2018. This day reminds us that we should stand up and show our daughters and granddaughters that science is the career choice that will change everyone’s lives for the better.

We must ensure that our daughters have better opportunities to explore higher education, choose diverse career pathways, take advantage of opportunities for innovation, research and development in all of the fields of science.

Our inspiration may come from women in the past who have dedicated their lives to pushing boundaries, including Rosalind Franklin, Marie Curie, Dorothy Hodgkin, Elizabeth Anderson, but in very recent times we should thank the dedication and fearlessness of Helen Sharman, Margaret Aderin-Pocock,  Julia Higgins, Kay Davies, Jane Francis, Janet Thornton, to name but a few.

These Scientists have changed the perception of women’s role in science, they continue to develop and nurture the scientific work force and importantly continue to push the boundaries and break the ceilings.

At the Academy for Healthcare Science we will continue to support our women in science now and into the future.
