Regulation Chair Christmas Message

What a year it has been! The Academy has significantly increased the range and number of registrants, there are now several Parts to the PSA Accredited Register and new Directories. This means more UK patients or service users have access to healthcare science professionals who understand the need to attain and maintain high professional and scientific standards in their day to day practice. Remember to use the PSA Mark to show your commitment to being a registered and regulated professional.

We have had the first of our registrant workshops in the autumn, hosted brilliantly by NHS Education Scotland (NES) in Edinburgh. It was well attended and lively discussions about contemporary issues such as equivalence and CPD portfolios were had. Plans for a similar workshop in the south of the UK are in train for early 2018.

Nationally we have finally had the DH Consultation on professional regulation across the UK, I hope you took the opportunity to have a look at the questions asked. We should all look forward to the Report and Government response presumably by Spring 2018, watch this space in Vox and we will let you know.

Council members continued to give their time and expertise and we are well supported by a small but talented team of people, my thanks to everyone for their hard work on your behalf. Accredited registers and registrants on these types of registers are becoming the norm, I increasingly hear managers and employers talking about the benefits to them in terms of their employees being registrants helping assure patient safety.

So, keep up the good work after having a peaceful (probably busy) and happy Christmas and we look forward to working with you in 2018.
