Dr Rob Orford Chief Scientific Adviser for Health Christmas Message
Dear Readers
This my first blog post as Welsh Government’s Chief Scientific Adviser for The Academy of Healthcare Science. I have been in post at Welsh Government for almost a year and it has been a fascinating journey. It is an enormous privilege to work with the best and brightest clinical and scientific minds from Wales.
There is a true buzz in NHS Wales about the future of healthcare science in the service. We are working together with our system leaders and healthcare science community to discuss how best to address the recommendations of the soon to be published cross party Parliamentary Review of Health and Social Care.
There is much going on across health sciences from Imaging, Pathology, Genomics, Cell and Gene Therapy and Healthcare Science in Wales and I am very excited to be involved in this work. I hope to share some of the announcements and opportunities with you next year. I am also keen to support the excellent work of ACHS and help create a thriving environment for HCS in the UK.
Also to note: Welsh Government are sponsoring an Advancing Healthcare Award in the category of prudent healthcare (2) – the application close date is the 19th January 2018. It would be great to see more healthcare scientists recognised for their achievements.
