Academy appoints new Education, Training and Professional Standards Committee Chair

On behalf of the Academy, Lynne Smith, AHCS Board member and Scientist Training Programme (STP) Lead, congratulated Professor Barry Hirst on becoming Committee Chair and welcomed his involvement in the quality assurance of education and training.

“Professor Hirst was Dean of Postgraduate Studies in the Faculty of Medical Sciences for ten years to 2014 and has a well-established commitment to Modernising Scientific Careers, leading Newcastle University’s bid for STP programmes; and linking Northumbria and Sunderland Universities and Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Barry also championed Patient & Public Involvement (PPI) in MSC courses and was a member of the Modernising Scientific Careers Education and Training Scrutiny Group, also being involved in programme level and institutional QAA visits and audits.  His experience will greatly benefit the Academy.”

Professor Barry Hirst said “I am delighted to be continuing my involvement with the Healthcare Science professions and look forward to contributing to the maintenance and development of educational, training and professional standards by advising the Academy.”
