The Chief Scientific Adviser for Health is a key post within the Welsh Government’s Health and Social Services Group. This exciting and high-profile post is responsible for the provision of scientific advice in relation to health, and healthcare (including radiology, pathology, radiotherapy, and genetics), and is accountable to the Chief Medical Officer for Wales. You will be the principal source of advice to the Health and Social Services Group (HSSG), and in particular the Director General, on health sciences and health-related services. The role provides clinical leadership to the profession of Health Scientists, and will promote continuing cost-effective development and transformation of services within a complex, dynamic and changing healthcare environment. The post holder will work closely with the Chief Scientific Adviser for Wales, and the Deputy Director of Research and Development, to ensure a co-ordinated and strategic approach to health science in Wales.

 

Terms of appointment: Salary circa £68,000 per annum. This post is offered as a permanent appointment or on a secondment for up to 5 years.  If the successful candidate takes up this role on a secondment basis they may retain their existing terms and conditions including salary.

 

Work pattern: This is a full-time post however, we welcome applications from those wishing to work four days part time whilst maintaining links with other professional commitments for one day a week, such as research or clinical time.
Location: The post is pan Wales, and the postholder may work from any of the Welsh Government offices, however, the applicant must be willing to travel across Wales for meetings and events and be available to support Government business in Cardiff routinely and frequently.
