Our role in registration and professional standards

The Academy for Healthcare Science is the uniting voice of the diverse Healthcare Science workforce in the UK, bringing together a wide variety of scientific disciplines in healthcare.

One of our key tasks is to uphold professional standards across Healthcare Science, providing assurance for the public and commissioners of services. While our continuing ambition is to see statutory regulation put in place across all the Healthcare Science profession, we realise that it is vital to put in place and appropriate and effective system for registration and regulation of the Healthcare Science workforce who are not currently covered by statutory regulation through the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

We have therefore established a Register of Healthcare Science Practitioners and will be establishing registration across  the profession over the next three years.

We have established standards that individuals must meet to be registered, and continue their registration, with us. We have also established a Regulation Council to manage our registration and regulation work in the public interest.

About this consultation

The Academy for Healthcare Science Regulation Council is now consulting on the rules that will govern how it deals with applications for registration and with complaints made against registrants.

We welcome your views on whether the rules are fair, reasonable and capable of protecting the public.

This consultation is being conducted between 31 July 2014 and 22  August 2014.

We are not asking specific questions in this consultation but would be interested to hear any views you may have on any particular aspects of the rules and the processes we propose to use to deal with registration applications, appeals against decision we make about registration applications, and how we propose to handle complaints made against registrants.
