AHCS President congratulates new NSHCS Head of School

The AHCS President, Dr Brendan Cooper, has published this message on the new appointment of the National School of Healthcare Science Head of School.

Dr Brendan Cooper Academy for Healthcare Science President

I am delighted to see the announcement of Prof Berne Ferry being appointed as the new Head of NHCS and also Prof Suzanne Chamberlain, becoming the Deputy Head of School. This new leadership team will take the school forward building on the great job done by the recently retired Chris Gibson. As President of the Academy, I look forward to working with Berne and Suzanne in the coming months to address issues affecting both our organisations. Healthcare Science is the “life-blood transfusion” that should help the struggling NHS to meet the challenges ahead by offering new options in diagnostics, therapeutics and clinical leadership.  We cannot continue in the NHS in the same ways that we have done for decades – we need to work differently and in exciting new ways.  The Academy and School will work together towards producing the new breed of scientists relevant to the next 20 years of the NHS. Hopefully, 2017 will be just the beginning of this Healthcare Science revolution.
