AHCS takes 2012 STP trainees through equivalence to allow for Clinical Scientist registration

The Academy for Healthcare Science has written out to the 2012 intake of the Scientist Training Programme to request access to the information needed to take trainees through equivalence to allow Clinical Scientist registration.

Whilst the training for the 2012 intake has  followed the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) approved curriculum, because the training began before HCPC approval was granted, the HCPC requires the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) to undertake an equivalence process to confirm eligibility for registration.

The Academy has written to trainees, in conjunction with the NSHCS, explaining that equivalence will be assessed without trainees having to do anything over and above the National School’s requirements for exiting the programme. To do this, trainees will need to give the Academy formal permission to to review their OLAT portfolio once they have completed their training. Once this has been carried out, they will be awarded an AHCS Certificate of Equivalence, conferring eligibility to apply to the HCPC for registration as a Clinical Scientist.

Full details of the process and requirements are set out in the letter to 2012 trainees.
