32 extra HSST training posts announced as part of HEE Genomics programme
Up to 32 extra Higher Specialist Scientist Training (HSST) training posts for a January 2015 start have been announced by Health Education England – 16 in Genetics and 16 in Molecular Pathology of Acquired Disease. Apply by 12noon on 28 November 2014
The new places have been identified as part of the HEE Genomics Education Programme with up to 16 places in Genetics and up to 16 in the Pathology of Acquired Disease (specifically focused in Histopathology and Haematology). The Higher Specialist Scientist Training (HSST) has been identified as an essential part of workforce planning to expand the specialist scientific workforce in genomics. The aim is for the posts to start in early January 2015.
These posts will attract full salary funding for the first 3 years along with any academic fees incurred. However, the funding for the final 2 years of the training period must be met by the host department. HEE anticipate that the majority of these posts will be affiliated with those who have applied to become NHS Genomic Medicine Centres or those who plan to apply in subsequent procurement waves.
The Recruitment Process
Recruitment will be administered by the HEE National School of Healthcare Science and is to be restricted to in-service applications only. It will follow the same process as for all other HSST trainee positions recruited in 2014. In-service applicants must be in existing NHS posts and their application must be supported by their employers. All applicants will be required to undergo a formal benchmarking and appointment process overseen by the HEE National School of Healthcare Science.
Applications require that the HSST GEP Expression of Interest form is completed by your employer and sent to: MSCrecruitment@wm.hee.nhs.uk Nominations from employers must be received by 12.00 noon on 28 November 2014.
